Hi All,
Is there anyone that can elaborate on the sequence of events that take place when removing and re-inserting a had disk? Specifically how can I send a signal to the kernel that a disk has been removed and re-inserted with out actually doing so!
I am trying to overcome an issue with the "secure-erase" of an ssd. Currently I need to physically remove and re-insert the disk in order to "un-freeze" it before I can issue the security-erase command. So far the only way I can find of unfreezing the disk is to either remove and re-insert the device or power cycle the 5V! The latter is less than ideal and the former a non-starter in the app I have in mind.
Any assistance appreciated!
I've seen the kernel logs concerned with these kinds of events when tracking down how an early version of IVMAN needed to be configured. Perhaps the IVMAN code offers a clue. The other avenue I can think of, again related, is to do with the device notifier in desktops. If I recall correctly that ha something to do with D-BUS. -- Ignorance feeds on ignorance.
