Is there really not a single app that plays sound or just KDE? Does it not work either for a new user? I'll try a new user and see if that works. Otherwise the welcome sound isn't played, and flash in Firefox doesn't produce any sound either. Okay, tried with a new user, also no sound.
You could have a look at the phonon backend via systemsettings > multimedia > phonon. For xine it sometimes helps to remove the ~/.xine folder if updating its plugin list screwed things up. Pulseaudio may play a role, you can enable/disable it via YaST. It was disabled, I've now enabled it - didn't make any difference though. In Phonon, I have "Audio Output" and "Audio Capture" - under "Audio Output" I have only one device "Internal Audio", but under "Audio Capture" I also have "Intel ICH5".
This did the trick for me, Per: http://forums.opensuse.org/english/get-technical-help-here/multimedia/455823... Upon rebooting, you may need to select 'Front' as your master channel and ramp up the level for 'Master Front' in kmix. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
