What is it that they require from the Windows DHCP server that can't be supplied by the Linux DHCP server?
Most probably, integration with AD.
DNS is a prerequisite for Active Directory.Active Directory cannot be installed or configured without DNS. It really doesn't matter WHERE the DNS comes from. http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb463170.aspx <quote> Use only BIND-based DNS servers. In this scenario, DNS services are provided exclusively by UNIX BIND servers. Active Directory, all Windows-based computers, and all UNIX-based computers use BIND DNS servers for name resolution. When using UNIX BIND servers for DNS, you can choose to enable or disable dynamic updates. </quote> Try this net.educause.edu/ir/library/powerpoint/nmd0311.pps Back when I worked alongside a Windows group they had a lot of the back end AD services implemented on *NIX machines for various reasons. That place wasn't an 'antagonistic' IT culture. Well, OK, the AIX and the HP/UX parts didn't always get along ... Microsoft's database of stuff has a number of papers on using Linux/AIX/HPUX services for Windows AD/DNS/DHCP But I've never found searching MS easy. -- In cyberspace no-one can hear you scream - BUT EVERYONE CAN SEE YOU SHOUT. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
