I am running OpenSuSE 11.2 on a 64bit AMD CPU with Firefox 3.6.10 and jre1.6.0_21
I have an application, WebMO, that I use which has to be run using Firefox, and also uses Java applications which requires libjavaplugin_oji.so. I can open WebMo in Firefox, but when I have to run a Java app it doesn't open.
I have been in contact with the WebMO developer and we have eliminated any problems with WebMO that might be responsible for this behavior. I have also checked the permissions of the plugin and they are appropriate. Further, as there are two versions of the plugin, ns7-gcc29 and ns7, neither one of which work. Finally, I opened firefox in a terminal and there were no messages when Forefox opened.
This is most perplexing and I would appreciate assistance in solving the problem.
Since version 3.6 Firefox only works with the new type of Java plugin. OJI support was dropped. But Sun Java 1.6.0r21 has the new plugin and it should work. Do you see a Java plugin in about:plugins?
