Actually, if you enable X11 forwarding in sshd_config on the remote and the ssh_config in the local machine you don't need the -X. As proof of this, I had to look up what the hell the -X actually does, because I haven't used in 10 years. I prefer the inconvenience of entering a password when making a connection.
