Thanks, I've got it going now! Wasn't too difficult.

Does anybody happen to know how to enable remote system logging in opensuse 11.2?
Had to make the following changes to /etc/sysconfig/syslog on the receiving server
RSYSLOGD_COMPAT_VERSION="0" RSYSLOGD_PARAMS="-t514"
and uncomment
$ModLoad imtcp.so
in /etc/rsyslog.d/remote.conf
My receiver is currently running Ubuntu. I just uncommented $ModLoad imtcp $InputTCPServerRun 514 in /etc/rsyslog.conf and added :FROMHOST,contains,"myhost" /var/log/myhost.log in /etc/rsyslog.d/50-default.conf
and
# Remote Logging (we use TCP for reliable delivery) # An on-disk queue is created for this action. If the remote host is # down, messages are spooled to disk and sent when it is up again. $WorkDirectory /var/spool/rsyslog # where to place spool files $ActionQueueFileName uniqName # unique name prefix for spool files $ActionQueueMaxDiskSpace 1g # 1gb space limit (use as much as possible) $ActionQueueSaveOnShutdown on # save messages to disk on shutdown $ActionQueueType LinkedList # run asynchronously $ActionResumeRetryCount -1 # infinite retries if host is down # remote host is: name/ip:port, e.g. 192.168.0.1:514, port optional *.* @@192.168.0.254
on the sending server
Yep, I did that. What surprised and pleased me was that I didn't have to fiddle with the firewall. Cheers, Dave -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
