Hello list. I tried a fresh install of OS 11.3 this weekend. The machine is a pretty lambda white box (P4, 1 GB ram). It already had an OS 11.2 on it (that installed flawlessly at the time), but I only reused the partition layout from it. All FS were reformatted during install (reiserfs). The first part of the install proceeded as usual, and it then went on copying all needed packages on the machine. I don't know exactly how far it went, because I didn't stay in front. I expected the machine to display the second part of the installation process when I returned to it (network and hardware configuration), but was instead greeted with a black screen and an unblinking cursor in the upper-left corner. The machine seemed completely frozen. I just hit reset, and the machine then booted fine (grub had the 11.3 kernel) and got me to the KDM. I didn't investigate it any further for lack of time, but this reminds me of a previous post on the list (last Friday) in the context of an upgrade: the post titled "update 11.1 to 11.3 via install DVD" by Roger Oberholtzer. I'll obviously first run a memtest and then try the installation again, this time keeping a watchful eye. But would anyone else have had the same issue ? TIA Cheers. Bye. Ph.
