My machine simply refuses to boot with the 2.6.34 kernel (and I'm running recent hardware - dual core 2.8GHz E6300 Pentium, 4GB Ram). I use 2.6.33-27 (locally compiled) and it works fine. I upgrade to 2.6.34-47 (or any other variant) and get grub, followed by a black screen and no disk activity. The only thing that works then is power-off or reset. :-(.
I've tried all the oS variants of the kernel as well as locally compiling
it using the existing (working) kernel config (after running make oldconfig, of course). Just doesn't work, so I'm stuck with 2.6.33 at the moment. How does one file a bug report when the machine doesn't even get far enough to give any error messages?
Might it be the problem described in http://lists.opensuse.org/opensuse- kernel/2010-06/msg00033.html ?
Possibly, but I'm not even getting a kernel panic message - it doesn't even seem to be getting that far. Nevertheless, I'll wait a few days and see if the next update fixes it.
