Hi, Jim--
Well, it almost worked. After a bunch of futzing, I got t/b 3.0.4 installed. It receives OK, but it won't send. When trying to send, one gets an error message as follows: ______________________________________________________ Sending of message failed. Unable to authenticate to SMTP server mail.optonline.net. It does not support authentication (SMTP-AUTH) but you have chosen to use authentication. Uncheck 'Use name and password' for that server or contact your service provider. ______________________________________________________
Well, I looked all over for a place to uncheck "Use name and password" and I cannot find it anywhere, nor do I find any reference anywhere to authentication.
This message is being sent from Windows t/b, ver 3.01, which I know will send.
If you can help in this area, I would appreciate it. If I call the server, they will tell me they know nothing about Linux.
Thanx--doug
Thanx to Jim, and to all others who helped. I _did_ call optonline and got a really helpful fellow named Oscar Shelton, and he got the thing working for me. The trick was to take the user name (above the "use authentication" check box line) _out_! Then it works fine. Note that the setup routine says "user name" _not_ "use name" as per the error message. And nothing about a password. That's what confused me. Hope this helps anyone else who runs into this. --doug -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
