Listmates,
After yesterdays updates, compiz 8.2 from the X11: repository is dead in the water on 11.0. The funny thing is compiz is working perfectly in Gnome?? I am scratching my head why compiz suddenly stopped working in KDE. The compiz packages I have installed are from the X11 repository:
<snip>
In KDE (either one), the errors received when attempting to start compiz are:
21:36 alchemy:~> compiz (core) - Error: Another window manager is already running on screen: 0 compiz (core) - Fatal: No manageable screens found on display :0.0
[1]+ Exit 1 compiz --replace --sm-disable --indirect-rendering --ignore-desktop-hints ccp
The mystery deepens. I erased compiz 8.2 and reinstalled 7.8 that always worked quite well for me in the past. Same exact response. Compiz WORKS in GNOME but is DEAD in KDE3 & KDE4. Some update has had the effect of killing compiz in both kde3 and kde4. I can't for the life of me think of what file/rpm would be common among the two desktops that could have the effect of causing compiz to fail to start. I have created a sorted (by name) list of the rpms installed yesterday, one of which caused the current problem: (5k) http://www.3111skyline.com/dl/bugs/compiz/rpms-killed-compiz-sorted.txt I'm at a loss to what I'm looking for. Obviously it is something desktop related, but what is common to both kde3&4? Different base packages, different display managers, etc.. Must be something fairly low level in X to prevent the discovery of manageable screens for compiz. You desktop guys have any thoughts of what kdm/xdm/etc.. packages I should be looking for? A real bitch is the fact that I can't install any devel or debug packages for compiz because all the compiz debug packages for 11.0 will not install without breaking dependencies. They are all built for kde 4.0.4 and nobody has ever rebuilt compiz for kde4.3.x. Any ideas hear? Thanks! -- David C. Rankin, J.D.,P.E.
