Or to ask with as less shaking head: How often are you _creating_ or even touching /etc/fstab by hand?
very often. last time last day :-( and on an hosted server I had to reinstall (the host install system is one of these nuts that format as they partition, so I had to use only root at install time)
Compared to that the requirement to use approximately 60 additional chars is negligible. At least to me. YMMV.
let alone to find them. it's very good for automatic install. But why can't we have some CLI tools? listen. There is bearly all at hand: try: ls -l /dev/disk/by-* gives (my computer, summary) ls -l /dev/disk/by-* | more /dev/disk/by-id: total 0 lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 9 déc. 12 09:33 ata-WDC_WD5000BEVT-00ZAT0_WD-WXNY08N61636 -> ../../sda lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 10 déc. 12 09:33 ata-WDC_WD5000BEVT-00ZAT0_WD-WXNY08N61636-part1 -> ../../sda1 lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 11 d (...) /dev/disk/by-label: total 0 lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 10 déc. 12 09:33 11.1_data -> ../../sda8 lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 10 déc. 12 09:33 11.1_home -> ../../sda7 (...) so it's pretty easy to write a script to display on a line id, label and dev. I could probably, but with my (poor) skills, this will take me one day :-( jdd -- http://www.dodin.net http://valerie.dodin.org http://news.opensuse.org/2009/04/13/people-of-opensuse-jean-daniel-dodin/ -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
