I'm trying to build an image for a USB stick - openSUSE 11.0 - but I seem to be getting all kinds of weird and wonderful errors. Such as: wrong number of inodes for the filesystem, unable to read local repository, media exceptions etc. I'll keep trying, but just in case someone says "ah, don't bother, it doesn't really work"?

Instruction for item 3 :
plugin in usb stick
check dmesg output about the device name (e.g. sdc)
umount all possibly automounted file systems
gzip -cd <download>.raw.gz | dd of=/dev/
