Details of my setup are as below: Install: openSUSE 11.1 (x86) RAM/Swap: 3.0GB/2.0GB CPU: Pentium D 2.66GHz Desktop: xfce 4 KDE: 3.5.10 (stock SUSE packages) KMail Folder: 1.2GB total in 17000 files (messages are filtered/stored into subfolders in maildir format) Kaddressbook: approx. 1100 contact entries I have been using Kontact for the past many years as it provides integrated email, address, appt./calendar, etc ... When I invoke Kontact, top shows kontact and korgac taking up > 90% CPU usage on both cores! The Kontact application display goes blank and it returns after about a 60-90 seconds. Likewise, when I make any change to any address book entry the same deal. Late 2008, I was using KUbuntu 8.04, stock KDE 3.5 and Kontact. At that time the KMail dir was about 1.0GB and approx. 950 contacts in the addressbook. Kontact response time was acceptable. Appreciate any suggestions to figure out the bottle neck and any possible solutions.
