Can someone explain how they will work together?
I don't know what is contrib :-(
It is new build service repository that is meant for 3rd party packages that are not in the release / factory. I assume as part of the build service it is still restricted to GPL code only. http://en.opensuse.org/Contrib
but openSUSE and the build service can only accomodate free software (opensource), when Pacman can also hold soft with different licences
Yes, I know it can, but it currently also has a lot of GPL code in it, right? Or not? Alternatively there are a bunch of discrete repositories within the OBS, but it is a pain having to add a OBS repository every time you want to add package not in the official distribution. If I understood correctly, the Pacman GPL based packages are currently being compiled / maintained outside the Build Service because there is not a OBS / Pacman interface, so it is problematic. Thus Contrib was created to as a more controlled way to maintain those GPL packages and to consolidate the OBS packages that are considered maintained?
