If you run 'mkinitrd' as root, at the end, it'll list the boot
splash theme and size. If it doesn't list splash, you can do
'mkinitrd -s 1024x768'

That mkinitrd -s thing fixed it partially, thanks! Read what it did
in Dominique's post. Still get the text scrolling after the
bootsplash screen though. :(

Add splash=silent to the command line at the boot screen. Then it should
stay until you log in. If you want it permanent, then add it to the
command line in menu.lst
