[opensuse] Setting up a virtio(_net) device

Using Suse 11.0 and 11.1, I try to use the virtio network device.
However, does anybody has an idea how to set this up under SuSE, since
suse complains that it needs an physical eth0 or wlan0 device and does
not allow to setup the virtio network device.
Any suggestions?
