Is this another of those "gaps" where KDE4's new code-base is still
catching up to what was in KDE3 or am I doing something wrong?

How do you do this in KDE 3 ? I haven't been able to throw stuff in the
system tray like that.

Oooh, neat! Still, I'm not *sure* it does what you want. It only adds a
system tray icon for that application when it is running. If you close the
application the system tray icon goes away. I'm not sure how useful that
really is on applications that aren't designed for the system tray. It
should have the same behavior in KDE 4.1, but no guarantees.

You can right-click and "Add Item to Main Panel", and I'm fairly sure KDE 4.1
has that feature as well -- although there might be a different way to get
the same result--D'n'd being the most likely candidate. That's what I do
when I want an application quickly accessible.
