user passwords added with smbpasswd -a, no errors, but smbpasswd file is empty windows and samba user names and passwords are the same. Can't log in or authenticate, Windows see's the Samba Server, just can't authenticate. Don't know what to check next...?
Techmail, I just finished the 11.1 x86-64 install and samba config and I have no problems connecting. Granted, I just copied my /etc/samba files from a 11.1 Beta 5 install over and didn't recreate them, but samba was working only a few days ago and it's still working on the new 11.1 install, so I bet your issue is configuration. Your smbpasswd file should not be empty of course. Dumb question, but I'll ask, you did run smbpasswd -a as root, right? Not sudo smbpasswd? Do you have any clues in the /var/log/samba/log.smbd or /var/log/messages? First you must fix the smbpasswd problem and I think your problems will be solved. For what it's worth, after that is done, here is my global and homes from smb.conf that works just fine as a local master with Linux, XP, 98, and Vista clients: global] use sendfile = No workgroup = rb_law server string = Samba %v printcap name = cups load printers = yes printing = cups show add printer wizard = no disable spoolss = yes log file = /var/log/samba/log.%m max log size = 100 time server = yes admin users = david smb ports = 139 hosts allow = 192.168.7. 192.168.6. 192.168.8. 192.168.5. 127. 66.76.63.60 domain logons = yes map to guest = bad user security = user encrypt passwords = yes smb passwd file = /etc/samba/smbpasswd socket options = TCP_NODELAY local master = yes os level = 69 domain master = yes preferred master = yes name resolve order = wins lmhosts bcast wins support = yes dns proxy = no usershare allow guests = No [homes] comment = Home Directories browseable = no writable = yes Post more facts and I'll make more guesses ;-) -- David C.
