Yeah, there's about a zillion different options - you could also boot PXE from a floppy or CD, retrieve the installation system over TFTP, and install like that. I have such a setup running for testing. I.e. for all the alphas and betas and different versions, to test one, I just plug in the floppy, boot the machine and select the system to install from a menu.
