Listmates,
I hope you can help me with sharing a printer with a Vista (yeah, I know LOL) machine. This is occuring both on Suse 10.3 and 11.0 - I can print from windows with no problem yet when I try to look at the print queue it says access denied. Looks like maybe I somehow have the queue set up as write only but I didn't intend to!
any ideas?
thanks
In XP, there was a bug in the registry that caused the Access denied issue and would cause the print dialog to hang on remote printers (let me take a look at virtual box ... hold on...stay with me, I'm still waiting for AVG to update...crap, now an update... hold on...Got it!) The problem is when a remote (cups) printer is added in windows is creates entries in: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Printers\DevModePerUser HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Printers\DevModes2 of the form: \\sambaShare\printername In order to get windows to play nicely with the remote queue, you must delete all of the \\sambaShare\printername entries. This doesn't affect the printer config, etc.. For some reason windows would go into an endless loop when it hit these type printer entries. It wouldn't surprise me if the same happens in Vista. It's only been a problem for about 7 years, ms hasn't had the time to fix it yet. ;-) -- David C.
