I am using the standard opensuse ati driver called "radeon". I've been using this driver for several years with the same card but with an 17" CRT monitor with resolution 1024x768. I never experienced any problem with it.
My TFT is set according to the manufacturer's instructions (20" monitor, 1400x1050 at 60 Hz. The only thing I can think of that the graphics card is not powerful enough for changing the screen fast. I don't think it is trying to change resolution.
I will try the monitor with another more powerful card.
I doubt a "more powerful" card is a good solution to your problem. My 20" Viewsonic LCD is 1400x1050@60. When I first got it 2 years ago I was using a 4MB Tseng PCI card designed in 1996. It gave no problem in framebuffer, DOS or OS/2, but did for a time have a problem in Mandriva's X that eventually got fixed: https://qa.mandriva.com/show_bug.cgi?id=34619 Will yours work OK if you boot a Knoppix CD? Have you tried commenting out the UseModes line in xorg.conf? -- "Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to become angry." James 1:19 NIV Team OS/2 ** Reg.
