The packman community repository seems to have a vlc version higher than the "real" vlc repository, at least for suse 10.3. after testing it, most of the videos i used to play on vlc just don't any more, errors appear like "Vlc can not play xvid, no way to fix that" etc. going back to the older version does not help, now vlc seems fully broken. apparently the "uninstall" thru yast is behaving like a microsoft uninstall, no way to go back to the earlier version cleanly!!!!
is it a bug or drm crippling?
It's an unfortunate fact that PM jumps on the FTP folder as soon as a new tarball lies there, whereas the VLC repository waits with a release until the team is ready to release...
Most typically, the cache of vlc is broken, as the new version is not compatible with the 0.8.6 series.
try starting vlc with vlc -vvv --no-plugins-cache and check if that helps you out. (I hope the parameter is like this.. otherwise use vlc --help... you-ll find some settings to ignore configurations and caches).
Hopefully this brings you back on track...

thanks for the suggestin Dominique, alas no joy on the quick test, just errors of various sorts on various known good files that have played fine in the past. Unless someone has a suggestion, as soon as I get a chance, I will look for the correct file version of all supplied and required packages for 8.6 and make sure i got them. 8.6 was working just fine 99.999% of the time, i only tried packman for the extra .001% and paid for it... thanks again, dimitris -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
