Why can't Linux distributions be as good as Windows XP? Any thoughts?
Of course it can: 1. Use a more conservative distribution policy 2. Only once in 3 to 5 year a new distro 3. Provide only patches to repair the ??? 4. Big money marketing to convince that its perfect 5. Keep bugs secret. 6. Let people pay for everything, if its expensive nobody confesses that he did a bad buy, or if you have to buy for every problem solution......most people accept it as it is. Do I want this, no I will be at the bleeding edge of technology. And just like the world nothing is perfect. Thats the reason why I choose for opensuse. And if you want, and not lazy and buildup some knowledge,in linux there is always some kind of a solution. If something doesn't work in xp and are you a small customer than thats the end of your problem. If I want something more stable for longtime I have to make another choice maybe sles or sled or .... choice enough. And even than if you have a perfect system and being conservative and did not change anything, the world changes continuously. New hardware, new standards, new threats, new energy prices, new eye candy,.... And your perfect system is less perfect.
