Some how I installed or upgraded without the graphical boot menu. Is there a way to get it back without a complete reinstall ?
Check this line in /boot/grub/menu.lst gfxmenu (hd0,2)/boot/message
(hd0,2) for GRUB is /dev/sda3 for kernel /dev/sda3 is my boot partition
I have forgotten to say that (hd0,2) above points to my boot partition. You have to edit that to point to yours. GRUB numbering is different than kernel. (hd0,0) > 1 disk 1 partition > /dev/sda1 (hd0,1) > 1 disk 2 partition > /dev/sda2 ... (hd1,0) > 2 disk 1 partition > /dev/sdb1 GRUB starts counting from 0, instead of 1.
Also check that you have file /boot/message .
I do not have a file /boot/message
Install package that has /boot/message: zypper in gfxboot-branding-openSUSE-4.0.14-4.1 Also check that file /boot/grub/menu.lst has gfxmenu line as above, otherwise it will ignore /boot/message -- Regards, Rajko http://en.opensuse.org/Portal needs helpful hands. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
