Here's a message from the kernel mailing list:
"Driver 'sd' needs updating - please use bus_type methods"
The warning never appeared in RC6, and all google reveals are other peoples logs that are posted about other issues.
Do I need to fix up something here? No, you don't. It's harmless, a side effect of:
commit 751bf4d7865e4ced406be93b04c7436d866d3684 Author: James Bottomley
Date: Wed Jan 2 11:14:30 2008 -0600 [SCSI] scsi_sysfs: restore prep_fn when ULD is removed
It would be better to silence this warning.
James, we need to reset prep_fn in each ULD? though it's not nice...
What's frustrating is that they are making everthing look like scsi now. IDE, USB, etc. And, they also brought back the /dev/sr0 for burners. That used to be an ide-scsi hack, which Linus didn't like. Then they fixed it so that it wasn't needed, and now they've changed it again to make it again look like scsi. I dunno.
Thank you Larry: Yes, I recall The change to scsi everything came back in incrementally somewhere between 10.0 and 10.2 on openSuSe where we went from /dev/cdrecorder to /dev/sr0 for burners and /dev/hd(abcd) to /dev/sd(abcd) for PATA interfaces. Carlos, if this is the case, and the issue is known, would a bug report help in this case and help put the focus back on the problem or is this now part of the class of bugs that will just automatically be "closed" "INVALID"? Obviously if the warning is generated by base/driver.c:driver_register() due to the change back to using the scsi bus type for everything, then it needs to be fixed. Let me know if it is something that needs to be filed and I'm happy to do it but I don't want to waste time on another closed/invalid bug type. -- David C. Rankin, J.D., P.E.
