Well... if that were a solution lastcomm wouldn't exist, or? :-) Furthermore, .bash_history can be deleted, edited, etc thus is not so reliable... And yes, you can also modify utmp and wtmp but to do that is a bit more complicated... From the example shown on that page you can see that the output is a bit too rough as it only shows the command, not the arguments... So if I execute 'vi /etc/passwd', lastcomm will show me this:

Have a look at your .bash_history file which shows what was actually typed at the command prompt.
