I have an interesting problem in regards to YAST2 modules. After installing multimedia codecs and packages from several community repos YAST2 modules do not display after being clicked. I can see the processes when I do a ps -A, but never get a window and have to end up killing the process. I have no problem using the command line version of YAST just the QT version. I thought it might have to do with installing the beta version of VLC with the QT interface, but an uninstall did not correct the problem. I have a laptop and PC that I can reproduce the problem on. I guess I could spend all weekend trying to figure out what combination is causing the issue, but would rather slog through log files. Am I on the right track by looking in the /var/log/YaST2/y2log file?
Thanks,
James
Dave,
When I run yast2 sw_single I do not get the software management window and command line sits blank like it is running the app. Also, ps -A shows yast2 and y2base running. Output of y2log below.

Your log stops just before the qt gui is created, output I have :- 2008-06-27 10:43:42 <1> Arbuthnot(4073) [ui] YUI.cc(YUI):57 Creating UI with threads 2008-06-27 10:43:42 <1> Arbuthnot(4073) [qt-ui] YQUI_core.cc(processCommandLineArgs):265 Qt argument: YaST2 2008-06-27 10:43:42 <1> Arbuthnot(4073) [qt-ui] YQUI_core.cc(processCommandLineArgs):265 Qt argument: sw_single 2008-06-27 10:43:42 <1> Arbuthnot(4073) [qt-ui] YQUI_core.cc(processCommandLineArgs):265 Qt argument: -S 2008-06-27 10:43:42 <1> Arbuthnot(4073) [qt-ui] YQUI_core.cc(processCommandLineArgs):265 Qt argument: qt 2008-06-27 10:43:42 <1> Arbuthnot(4073) [qt-ui] YQUI_core.cc(calcDefaultSize):396 Default size: 895 x 688 And much more.
Not being an expert I would suggest, using ncurses yast, force reinstallation of all qt4 and all yast2 by selecting update for them. You may have the gtk package installed in which case see if yast2 --gtk sw_single works. What window manager are you using? Regards Dave P --
I'm running KDE 4.0.4 on my desktop and KDE 4.1beta 2 on my laptop. I'll try reinstalling on my desktop and let you know how it goes. I'll also configure a VM to figure out which multimedia package caused this to happen. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
