Before I begin, I did follow numerous wiki pages on XGL/AIGLX and compiz - most of them assume you are going to use AIGLX when running NVIDIA hardware. I had compiz installed (from instructions on the opensuse wiki pages), using AIGLX and closed NVIDIA driver. Worked great. After reading that XGL may be faster that AIGLX, I tried to get it to work. Installed xgl, removed Composite from xorg, and enabled xgl with gnome-xgl-switch. But after a afternoon of fiddling it just didnt want to work. So, I disabled compiz (touch the file in ~/.config/compiz/compiz-disable), removed the Autostart fusion-icon link in .kde/Autostart. But this morning after a reboot (I usually suspend to disk) I have XGL/compiz running? Where is it started from? I guess somewhere in gnome world (I run KDE). Btw, it runs lightning fast, much faster than AIGLX (is this a driver issue, Im on the laterst stable nvidia driver).
