Hi Carlos:
Your reply regarding the warning message is another issue. I explain my problem once more.
My printer is already set to A4 in cups.
Anyhow... there are per-user settings, so try, as your normal user: lpoptions which should list the printer options active, for your default printer. Or specify the printer with "-p printer". For mine: cer@nimrodel:~> lpoptions -p tp0 job-sheets=none,none printer-info=Canon_BJC4000_-_via_turboprint printer-is-accepting-jobs=1 printer-is-shared=1 printer-make-and-model='Canon_BJC4000 TurboPrint' printer-state=3 printer-state-change-time=1187966058 printer-state-reasons=none printer-type=143436 cpi=10 lpi=6 InkType=Color_1 MediaType=Plainpaper_0 _kde-filters=true zedoColorModel=RGB PageSize=A4 Resolution=360x360dpi_1 zedoDithering=ErrorDiffusion InputSlot=AutomaticFeed zedoLicensedTo=LicenseOwner zedoColorCorrection=1 zedoUserColor=0 zedoMirror=0 zedoDuplexAdjust=0 zedoBrightness=0 zedoContrast=0 zedoGamut=0 zedoIntensity=0 zedoGamma=180 zedoColorY=0 zedoColorC=0 zedoColorM=0 zedoColorK=0 There is one "PageSize=A4" in my case.
Still when I open a document in OOo writer and try to print it the paper size for the printer is set to 'letter'. This even occurs if I open a simple txt file (eg created by pico) although I have set my default template having A4 paper size and A4 for printing. Furthermore opening a simple txt file result in the page size set to 'letter' too. Where does OOo writer get these defaults from? How could I change them permanently to A4?
Yes, I think I have bumped into this thing previously, so I have that option set to warn me if the settings do not match. Every time I print, I make a point of looking the printer settings inside the OOo printing dialog, click on "properties", where I immediately can see the page size. I don't trust it. Fortunately, once you print a document, and you had selected "save after print", this setting is saved and holds for the next time.
Recently I could create a new default template document with A4 paper size and A4 default for printing, however these settings come into effect only if I create a new document or open a document based on this template.
I know, I read it.
And I find 'nuisance' if the selected paper size for printing depends on the document instead of the printer setting. It would have sense only if my printer would be filled with different types of paper (letter, A4) and the printer would choose according to this setting. I guess this is not the case with most of us, we have either A4 or letter paper in the printer and want that type as default.
The other place where this default could be set is based on country. This is defined under "language". I don't know if it is saved there or not, but it could be. If not... perhaps you will have to edit all the templates, one by one. - -- Cheers, Carlos E.
