I have atached the file you requested and ran the three commands both as a user and root and got the same results that I'm pating in the following:
mauede@linux-Ciccia:~> su Password: linux-Ciccia:/home/mauede # glxgears Xlib: extension "GLX" missing on display ":0.0". glxgears: Error: couldn't get an RGB, Double-buffered visual. Segmentation fault
Get used to use "su -", not "su". But Marcus is right, you have no GLX. The cause is clear: your configuration file is bad: Section "Module" Load "dbe" Load "extmod" EndSection It should load glx, too. For instance, I have: Section "Module" Load "dbe" Load "type1" Load "freetype" Load "extmod" Load "glx" EndSection Then, you have five mouses defined, on the same port, and several monitors. You haven't configured your X server. You are using a default config: # generic XFree86 4.x configuration file No wonder it doesn't work. So, that would be your first step. Make a backup of that file, close the X, (ctrl-alt-f1, log in as root, issue "init 3"), run "sax --reinit". When config is ok, save. Try with "startx". If ok, exit, and issue "init 5" to restart the X server, and ctrl-alt-f7 to enter. - -- Cheers, Carlos E.
