All that you say above is correct, IMO. Unfortunately, I do not have the time to massage the system to the extent that seems to be required. For example, I have been chasing this error in efax-gtk for the better part of the day, to no effect whatever, except that I have discovered half a dozen other matters which the developer has simply not taken the trouble to explain in what he is pleased to call his "help" system. I cannot go further. There is simply no excuse for spending two days to install a fax program; in OS/2 it took me minutes, most of which was devoted to configuration.
It takes more time because you are not used to configure / setup things in linux, I think. I can not help you with efax beacause I have never used it: I use hylafax directly from openoffice. Setup was fast and it simply works. No GUI, no gadgets. The people I know that use a GUI with hylafax, seem to favour jhylafax, I believe. But have a look here (I think I told you this already): http://www.hylafax.org/content/Desktop_Client_Software there are 30 clients to choose from! If you don't like efax-gtk, use another. In any case, first you have to make sure the server is configured properly with the modem-fax, and that it can send and receive. The client is secondary. - -- Cheers, Carlos E.
