I just installed opensuse 10.3 on a compaq presario st2172nx (32 bit dual core), with a usb wireless plugged in. There seems to be no programs or yast2 or ... to assist in usb wifi, or any wifi for that matter. I am using a netgear usb device (the one I am using now on a suse 9.3 box), and it si not recognized. Yast2->net devices->net card->only the not used eth0. I added the usb, but it does not check the airwaves, allow me to enter the netname, etc.
there is probably work to do on this direction on the wiki. I had the very same problem one week ago :-) I added some words in a page for indexing purpose, but this don't seems to be well set by the wiki search engine. I will spend some time in the http://en.opensuse.org/WiFi_HOWTO page right now to try make things better. for the moment, some clues: * some wifi cards have proprietary drivers and need absolutely ndiswrapper to work. You have to figure out what is the proprietary driver on the windows cd, which is not always easy... I failed to do so for a DWL-G122 usn key * some other wifi cards need a proprietary firmware to be dowloaded from the net. This was the case of my laptop card, solved previous week :-) and documented in the wiki * very often "wifi" is not used, but "wlan" instead. Search the wiki for these two words and see is you find what you need. please report here to help others, thanks jdd -- http://www.dodin.net http://www.ladepeche.fr/article/2007/10/27/127022-Claire-Dodin-une-Toulousai... -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
