Doesn't sound like you're told him that SMART *MIGHT* be giving a bogus report... you told him in no uncertain terms that without a doubt, his drive is 100% good, and that SMART is 100% wrong.
SO, JUST GET OFF MY ASS! When you stop being a jerk, I gladly will.
Here's the ACTUAL quote from my ORIGINAL message, in it's entirety:
strange how "in it's entirety" seems to leave out what you actually wrote.
Don't know if this helps, but a few years ago I had a computer that was saying the same thing. I couldn't find anything wrong with the drive so I turned off smart and used it another couple years before it finally failed. I don't think I said anything in particular about HIS drive. I said I had the problem. There was nothing wrong with MY drive. My inferrence was that SMART can be wrong.
I never said he shouldn't check his drive. I did check mine.
You didn't tell him to check his drive. You told him that SMART was wrong, and that the drive was indisputably good.
I never said his drive was not going to fail. I said that MY drive ran for another couple years just fine.
When people quit mis-quoting me and reading things in that aren't there I will be much nicer. I offered a bit of hard earned wisdom. Everyone immediately jumped my ass about it. I think the actual jerks are the ones that immediately told him to junk his old drive and buy a new one.
No, here is the ENTIRETY OF YOU ACTUALLY wrote to him (including his text that you replied to) (Message-ID: <473241CC.40103@swbell.net> : + On 11/07/2007 James Knott wrote: + + One thing to bear in mind, is that drives have spare sectors, which get + + used as others fail. SO, BITE ME!
