After my SUSE 10.3 supplied Firefox began acting up and finally refused to appear at all, I installed a Mozilla-origin Firefox. Now, when I click on any sound on a site, I hear nothing. I am operating under KDE. The volume on my laptop (Dell Inspiron 8600) is set all the way up. KMIX is on. I had no trouble with this under 10.2.
What do I do to fix this?
Hi Dennis, If you're having problems with an openSUSE installation, the last thing you want to do is throw software into the mix that hasn't been specifically packaged for installation in the distribution. Doing so just complicates matters and defeats the rationale for running an 'rpm' based system... unless, of course, you're seasoned and knowledgable enough to install it in such a way that it doesn't affect or conflict with other packages. In my experience, if you stick with the 'stock' and subsequently released openSUSE update packages, including those from alternate packagers like 'guru' and 'packman', you are much less likely to experience problems with mainstream software like Firefox. Also, by taking this more conservative approach, in the event you *do* experience problems, the chances are greater that others here who are similarly affected can work with or advise you on how to proceed. My recommendation would be to uninstall the generic Firefox, reinstall the openSUSE package and then try to work through the original problem with others here on the list. regards, Carl -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
