Thanks, this is embarrassing, I did use that site to update my installation, must have been to late - I totally missed the disable part.
You can also change to 2D after login using fusion-icon and selecting another "window manager"
Tried that, but the icon install had some dependencies I was not willing to hunt down at 2 in the morning.
