I have the opportunity to upgrade my system and have been looking at some new motherboards and processors. I'm mainly looking at the AMD AM2 processors and the Nvidia 590SLI chipset (but I have the possibility of getting something with the Nvidia 570SLI chipset).
Anyways, I've been offered these two motherboards: Asus Crosshair or the Gigabyte GA-M59SLI-S5. I've been doing some research on these two boards and finding a few comments or reviews but they are from about a year ago. Back then the problem seemed to be related to some ACPI problems. Not sure if those have been resolved yet or not.
Just built a new system and I'm using the Gigabyte GA-965P-DS3 with a Intel Q6600 Quad Core and I've been very happy with it so far. Still early, I guess, but no surprises when installing Fedora 7, openSUSE 10.2 and openSUSE 10.3 beta, and Windows XP. Well, besides the (in)famous "Missing Install CD" problem documented here: http://www.softwareinreview.com/cms/content/view/60/ I ran into when installing 10.2, but the workaround solved the problem. -- Jonathan Arnold (mailto:jdarnold@buddydog.org) LinuxBrainDump, Linux HowTo's and Tutorials: http://www.linuxbrainddump.org Daemon Dancing in the Dark, an Open OS weblog: http://freebsd.amazingdev.com/blog/ -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
