[06-19-07 18:18]: <snip> don't know much about converters. I would format a temporary area and store files while reformatting the original area to whichever format you decide is best for you.
The only thing I ever heard about converters was "be certain sure that you have a good ( restorable back up ) that was eons ago but it's probably good advice anyway
There are many opinions and you know about opinions :^) Yup , we all got em ;-)
Which filesystem is best to use nowadays? I have many small files, so which is better and most stable?
I got bitten by reiser some years ago and .... I use ext3 now and will switch to ext4 when it is available. Ditto on bitten. I usually have lots of stuff in huge files , I*was*using JFS which worked a treat.. since Suse isn't using it any more I went w/ XFS on this box haven't had any problems w/ the file system that wasn't PEBKAC , your mileage etc.
Is reiserfs still recommendable? It has not given me problems before. Why has OpenSUSE gone away from reiserfs as default?
I believe that support for v3 is lacking and v4 is not ready ?? And the owner /maintainer being charged w/ his wife's murder didn't instil a lot of confidence. He is going to be busy for a long time even if he gets aquitted. I have nearly 1.5 TB in 7 hard drives of various sizes and seldom reboot. I have had *no* (fingers crossed) problems with ext3 in the last three years. I'm an *old* horse and hesitate to change :^) Wheiw, I thought I was the one who couldn't let go of *stuff* ;-)
