Hello, I switched from Windows to Opensuse last weekend, on my Dell Inspiron 9100. I'm totally new in this environment, and need some help and I hope this is the right list to get it.
Absolutely. Welcome to the club.
. As a keyboard setting I chose the Dell Lattitude, and this is mostly correct, however I can't find out how to combine signs with letters, such as ' with a to get the accents on the letters;
In KDE the combination ctr-shift " a produces ä, ctr-shift ` e produces è and ctr-shift ' o produces ó. ctr-shift = C produces €. You also may use a utility GuCharmap for this purpose but the keyboard shortcuts are way faster.
. Browsing, I was asked if I wanted to download Flash, which I did, and got the message that it was succesfully installed, but I still can't play the video fragment. De-install and start again??
That is not going to help you. What browser do you use? It should work in konqueror, but if you use firefox, type "about:plugins" into the location bar to check if the plugin is seen by the browser.
