I had the same problem. My workaround was to change the boot to level 3, which booted the machine. Then when the machine booted into a terminal, I deleted .DCOPserver and ran dcopserver from the prompt. After that you can run startx which opens X, change the boot run level back to 5.
That fixes the problem. It takes longer to write about than to do.

You're seeing bug #177480 (bugzilla.novell.com). Not solved but workaroundable right now.

I checked and saw the bug but did not see a workaround. How to work around?
Chris

OK, when i run dcopserver as root(i ran it as the user first and got the same error), here is what i get: /usr/X11R6/bin/iceauth: timeout in locking authority file /home/<DOMAINNAME>/<username>/.ICEauthority ICE Connection rejected! DCOPClient::attachInternal. Attach failed Authentication Rejected, reason : None of the authentication protocols specified are supported and host-based authentication failed ICE Connection rejected! DCOPClient::attachInternal. Attach failed Authentication Rejected, reason : None of the authentication protocols specified are supported and host-based authentication failed DCOPServer self-test failed. iceauth: timeout in locking authority file /home/<DOMAINNAME>/<username>/.ICEauthority I did not change boot to level 3, i just ran dcopserver from the CLI. And when i look at the iceauthority file, it is "locked" and "root" is the owner with 600 permissions. I check my SLES10 install and the owner is root with 600 permissions. -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.4.2 (GNU/Linux) Comment: Using GnuPG with SUSE - http://enigmail.mozdev.org iD8DBQFGWPc01EOXBNiCtOkRAuUJAJsG8IX+ShfrwHVSRhr8kUdJxFBtPgCfTzHk Hi+zSM/9RqvdurN+Ol0TDqw= =vnx/ -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
