I don't know if this will be that helpful, but the
issue appears resolved. I installed an older version
of yast2-printer (2.13.13-6 down from
2.13.19-something) that got me past the updating
driver entries section that was segfaulting before.
Then, the info from
http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/showthread.php?t=466535
was very helpful as well.
Thanks kalifq and anyone else who was looking into
this for me.

Hello all,
I hope this hasn't been answered elsewhere, I did not find it in my search of the archives. I recently purchased a usb to db25 female parallel printer cable so I could attach my HP LaserJet 6P to my new motherboard that has no parallel port. The
occurs when I try to use the printer. Hopefully all relevant information:

When I attempt to set up the printer with YaST,
printer module segfaults at around 1% of searching
driver database. The backtrace output is in the attached text file.
When attempting to set up the printer manually,

The cable was purchased from SFCables and comes with absolutely no useful documentation.
Am I an idiot and missing something simple? Is there any hope? Should I attempt to return the usb to db25 and use one of those usb to Centronic adaptors?
Thanks in advance to everyone.
There was some problem at one time with the printer database, there were some messages here but seem to have deleted mine, so if you find out how to rebuild the printer database I think you will be ok.
