looks like you have a graphics driver/card/compatability problem. Would start with the stock openSUSE driver for the card and work from there.
Okay, I'll go generic for a bit and see what happens. Maybe there's a bug in the openSUSE nVidia driver.
Heh - it was kind of cool shutting down my SUSE laptop from a SSH session over on my XP desktop. I even remember /sbin/halt
But why? All you had to do was issue "init 3", repair your X config and "init 5".
