Hello, Joachim
I'm sorry, but I don't refer on the topic at the moment.
Joachim, why do you always change the Message-Id in the In-Reply-To field in your reply mail. This breaks the thread!
Hmm, the thread is signified by the References header, not by the In-Reply-To header. See RFC 2822, section 3.6.4. My In-Reply-To header is different because I don't follow the mailing list directly, but use the news gateway at nntp://news.gmane.org/. The posting that I reply to has the changed message header which gets copied to In-Reply-To. The thread's message ids itself are correctly listed in the References header. Well, at least Pine, Thunderbird, Seamonkey, GNUS, Emacs VM, handle it as intended. That said, if I had an opportunity to take the original message id for the In-Reply-To header automatically, I would certainly configure it. But I don't know of any. And for high-volume mailing-lists such as opensuse, News User Agents are a better choice than to place them in my incoming mailbox. Using the gmane news gateway also corrects the dreadful reply-doesnt-go-the-list configuration that the opensuse list maintainers have chosen. I hope this explains the situation, though it won't change it.
