I was going to format it as either a standard FAT or FAT32. The problem is that the USB stick shows up under 10.0 & 10.1. In 10.2, it says the partition table is not recognize. I need to repartition the USB stick and reformat it. Second problem, the stick does not show up in YAST so I can not d anything with it.
I tried it in both 10.1 and 10.2 after reading your original post. No problems with eithe rone and it does show up fine with fat32 using "My Computer" Icon which is really just Konqueror. You may want try: lsusb command after putting the stick in. Also, can you check to see if the USB is working on that computer outside of the sticks? Is the USB bus overloaded with current draining devices on that machine?
Bottom line is that your situation can not be reproduced on my 10.2 machines. I think reformatting may be a waste of time. Also, if lsusb doesn't see it you won't be able to reformat it anyway on that machine.
I tried lsusb and the device does not show up. I tried it with 2 other computers, one 10.0 & 10.1. It sows up without any problem. It is the only device plugged into the computer slot. To the drain problem, I can not tell. You might have brought up a situation where the on board USB is a problem.
I just tried on another prot and it comes up without a problem. It looks like I have a defective port.
I have two USB ports on the front of my machine and they are defective. I have spent the time yet to replace the cable and see if things improve. This is a 10.2 machine too and not reading the USB stick but I have three others that are reading it that are 10.2. So I think your on to something. Do you have any other USB devices you plug in and try?
I plugged it intoa another port on the machine. It now can read it. I am beginning to suspect that the actual physical port on the machine itself could have a problem as oppose to the motherboard. One thing that I noticed, when I plugged the device into the computer, it would cause a reboot. That probably is an indication of a short or something is happeing on he mother bard. I gues I will have to open up the unit to check it out.
I think you have it nailed now. Thanks for reporting back the status. I recently had a front panel USB connector fall apart. That is a black plastic piece came out with the USB plug I inserted. It's defective, nothing I can do but replace if I can find a replacment.
