Ok so it starts an update and gets 9% done and SITS THERE FOR 15 MINUTES? Its not drawing any significant amount of CPU, my net traffic is at a minimum, but its just sitting there, Not writing to the log, just doing nothing. Load Average is point 58.
What is it doing? And why can't it do it faster? Why not a little log action to help diagnose these long pauses.?
A full 18 minutes later it jumped to 17% done.
Whats it doing?
It should be possible to find out from the logs. I suggest to file a bug report and attach the logs. Missing progress information is definitely a bug.
