Some of the buttons/banners on http://en.opensuse.org/Buttons are in GIF format. Is there a special reason for this? Why not PNG? I thought that according to the discussions on this list some time ago we wanted to avoid GIF files...
I think the next/last GIF-related patent expires in a couple of weeks, so although PNG is probably superior, perhaps it doesn't matter much whether it's GIF or PNG?
Could you elaborate? At least the LZW patents, where the GIF format suffered from, expired in 2003/2004 IIRC.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gif "Although the Unisys gif patents have expired and the IBM ones will expire in the near future [snip...] The latest expiration date of the GIF-related patents will most probably be Friday, August 11, 2006 [1]." I believe it is the US IBM patent that expires on 11 August 2006. /Per Jessen, Zürich --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-help@opensuse.org
