Change the fstab entry from this: /dev/hdb1          /opt2          ext3       users 1 1 to this: /dev/hdb1 /opt2 ext3 acl,user_xattr 1 2 then "umount /opt2" and "mount /dev/hdb1" (mount will use the attributes you've set in fstab) Carl
