Hi list especially Carl, thanks a lot for your help! I also already searched a lot in the net for postings according to my problem. But your link seems to be the most likely one to fit my needs. Unfortunately, I am trying to install the Mouse on a Laptop (Samsung X20) ... - the problem is as follows: I modified my XF86Config-20060508 which should do the same as the XF86Config-4 file at posting #27 (link of your previous email) as follows: #NOTHING CHANGED HERE: Section "InputDevice" Driver "synaptics" Identifier "Mouse[1]" Option "Device" "/dev/input/mice" Option "Emulate3Buttons" "on" Option "InputFashion" "Mouse" Option "Name" "Synaptics;Touchpad" Option "Protocol" "explorerps/2" Option "SHMConfig" "on" Option "Vendor" "Sysp" Option "ZAxisMapping" "4 5" EndSection #CHANGED PARAGRAPH Section "InputDevice" Driver "mouse" Identifier "IntelliMouse" Option "Buttons" "7" Option "Device" "/dev/input/mice" # Option "Name" "ImPS/2 Generic Wheel Mouse" Option "Protocol" "explorerps/2" # Option "Vendor" "Sysp" Option "ZAxisMapping" "6:7" EndSection The Problem: when running xmodmap -e "pointer = 1 2 3 6 7 5" an error occurs: "xmodmap: commandline:0: bad number of buttons, must have 12 instead of 7 ... aborting ..." Seems like I need 5 more buttons specified for it that tell xmodmap how my touchpad has to behave. I think it should be appended as a prefix to the 7 above parameters because its the first "mouse" according to the XF86Config-20060508 file. But how can I find out those 5 parameters for my synaptics touchpad?? thanks again for your help and to the entire list - you are all doingt an excellent job!! with best regards Thomas
