I've been experimenting with /proc and there are two things that I don't understand. Maybe someone can help me.
I have an AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 4800+ in this machine. And I'm using the linux 2.6.13-15.8-smp #1 SMP Tue Feb 7 11:07:24 UTC 2006 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux kernal.
The Yast Hardware Information module says 'cpu Mhz:2411.15' is the cpu frequency. But cat /proc/cpuinfo says 'cpu MHz : 1004.645'. Why does the kernal say it's a 1004.645 Mhz cpu? Is this1004.645 Mhz the rate data is being processed?
Even as root I'm being denied acces to certain folders in proc:
# /proc/stat bash: /proc/stat: Permission denied l # /proc/tty/driver/serial bash: /proc/tty/driver/serial: Permission denied # /proc/bus/usb/devices bash: /proc/bus/usb/devices: Permission denied
Why?.
Thanks, Jerome
you dont make it clear just what you are tryingh to do ..
ds9:/proc # bash: /proc/stat bash: bash:: command not found ds9:/proc #
where as .. ds9:/proc # ls . 22576 30272 3309 4717 7506 fs net .. 22705 30302 34 4900 acpi ide partitions 1 24 30313 35 4971 asound interrupts scsi 13865 2727 30319 36 4982 bluetooth iomem self 13899 28999 30320 37 4984 buddyinfo ioports slabinfo 13900 2903 30324 4 4993 bus irq splash 13901 3 30326 433 4994 cmdline kallsyms stat 13902 30147 30329 434 4995 config.gz kcore swaps 14256 30148 30369 435 4999 cpufreq kmsg sys 14258 30166 30408 4566 5 cpuinfo loadavg sysrq-trigger 14463 30224 30457 4571 5000 crypto locks sysvipc 14673 30227 30473 4582 5001 devices mdstat tty 1580 30229 30474 4588 5002 diskstats meminfo uptime 1656 30231 3157 4595 5003 dma misc version 1778 30236 3164 4599 5004 driver mm vmstat 1869 30246 3191 4609 585 execdomains modules 2 30248 31945 4611 6 fb mounts 2187 30250 3202 4696 620 filesystems mtrr ds9:/proc #
So is this more a case of command confusion than not bieng allowed to gain access .. ceertainly looks that way to me ..
Pete .
I'm trying to find out why the Yast Hardware Information module says Mhz:2411.15' is the cpu frequency and cat /proc/cpuinfo says 'cpu MHz : 1004.645'. Also when I run /proc/stat as root I get 'Permission denied', I would like to know why. Thanks, Jerome
