Were anybody on the list successfull installing 10.1 over HTTP/FTP from inst-source from the network?
Sort of. I installed 10.1 by http from ftp.tu-chemnitz.de. However, the initial install conked out about two thirds of the way through. After rebooting, I couldn't log in because the installation process didn't get around to setting a root password. I booted to single user mode, set the password, configured the installation source in yast and carried on the network installation. I've always had problems with network installations of suse regardless of version, mirror, protocol, etc. However, I've never had a machine completely lock up on me during the installation process so I think your problem is probably unrelated to the fact that you're doing a network install. Have you tried downloading CD1 and doing a minimal console-based install? That's my preferred installation method these days: minimal CD install then install the rest of the system over the network. Sorry this post has been a bit long and more that a bit boring. Cheers, James.
