I've been experimenting with /proc and there are two things that I don't understand. Maybe someone can help me. I have an AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 4800+ in this machine. And I'm using the linux 2.6.13-15.8-smp #1 SMP Tue Feb 7 11:07:24 UTC 2006 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux kernal. The Yast Hardware Information module says 'cpu Mhz:2411.15' is the cpu frequency. But cat /proc/cpuinfo says 'cpu MHz : 1004.645'. Why does the kernal say it's a 1004.645 Mhz cpu? Is this1004.645 Mhz the rate data is being processed? Even as root I'm being denied acces to certain folders in proc: # /proc/stat bash: /proc/stat: Permission denied l # /proc/tty/driver/serial bash: /proc/tty/driver/serial: Permission denied # /proc/bus/usb/devices bash: /proc/bus/usb/devices: Permission denied Why?. Thanks, Jerome
